The NHL Players Association announced that its players have voted to ratify the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the NHL. The deadline to ratify was today at 8:00 a.m. ET, and all votes were cast electronically by secret ballot.
Next, to finalize the CBA both sides must sign a Memorandum of Understanding, which is an abridged version of the CBA that spells out the terms under which the League and its players will operate. Once the MOU is signed by both the Players Association and the NHL, the league will officially announce the date on which the 2012-13 season will begin.

Brian Burke has been relieved of his duties as General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs. The gruff, no nonsense manager said he was as shocked as everyone else in the hockey world when he was told. The Leafs replaced Burke with Dave Nonis, the same man who succeeded him as GM of the Vancouver Canucks back in 2004 when the Canucks fired Burke.

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and National Hockey League Players’ Association Executive Director Donald Fehr announced this morning that the two sides reached an agreement on the framework of a new Collective Bargaining Agreement. Although this ends the 113-day lockout, the league has not yet announced the start date of the 2013 season. More details will come in the next few days as hockey fan eagerly await the start of the abbreviated season.
